The Greatest Steam Show on Earth - Steam on Shed

As part of our visit to Jalainur in November 2007, we were granted permission to visit their steam repair and maintenance facilities.  

At first sight, this engineering workshop appears nothing special, the slogan as always enjoins the workers to maintain high standards, but that's a pair steam of locomotive driving wheels and in the background...:

is SY 0924 under heavy mechanical repair.

In the engine shed nearby were three further SYs:

SY 1041 carries the 'model crew' emblem, but was cold with the motion off:

SY 1618 was in light steam:

While SY 0682 appeared to be being prepared for action of some kind: 

Next day, we saw SY 0682 back at work at Nanzhan (and SY 1041 was out and about a day later too):

It would have been a wonderful experience for me as a youthful train spotter over 40 years ago, but now simply incredible.
